Japanthers music is, all at the same time, poignant, intense, danceable and fun. While they often refer to themselves as “more of an art project than a band” Japanther gets points for making some of the most memorable, hummable and fun music of any art project in recent memory. Japanther is part Screamers intensity, part Misfits anthemery, part RZA samples/beats and part Lightning Bolt art/freakshow.

Aerodrone is a lean, mean-playing electro pop-rock machine who has danced and rocked its way into basements and bedrooms around the nation through the help of Web 2.0 and phrases like “Hold Me Like A Microphone.” Originally from Oregon before moving to Los Angeles, the group has released the Sceneboy EP to rapid fan response across the world, seen on one YouTube video too many. After numerous gigs around the US and various run-ins with MTVU, Myspace Records, and Warner Music Group as well as awesome fans that work at Dairy Queen, the band has set out to mix new songs with help from producer Mark Needham of The Killers, Inner Party System, Fleetwood Mac fame. The result is a high energy blend of guitar riffs and dance-rock that even Soulja Boy can relate to. Stay tuned for an appearance at South By Southwest in Austin, TX this year plus the READY TO LOVE EP, hitting Hot Topic bookshelves all across the US this spring!

While so-called “pagan metal” bands seem to be popping up around every corner lately, trying to conform to current trends instead of coming up with ideas of their own, SUIDAKRA have stayed true to the sound that they have become known for. Reaching new heights in their fourteen year history, the German celtic metallers return full steam ahead with their 9th studio album, “Crógacht”. Combining fast melodic death metal, Irish folk music, and a torrent of harmonies, they prove yet again the ability blend several different influences into their unique sound. To put a spin on things, new elements are introduced, like traditional instruments (bagpipes, banjo, tin whistles), a sixteen member choir and epic orchestral arrangements.

Merely three years after writing her first song, Celeste Griffin founded Monarchs in both Birmingham, Alabama and Austin, Texas, catching the attention of the Music Capital of the World by independently releasing two EPs and playing regular gigs at Emos, Cactus Cafe, and Mohawk.
Celeste has developed the music emergent in her and cultivated her own unique brand of intimate songwriting. Her rugged, feminine lyrics combined with her smoky vocals make for dreamy yet anthemic music.
Monarchs EPs, The Oak EP and Those Words, Those Frames, are the sonic equivalent of a summer evening on a back porch. Griffin takes these moments wherever she goes, ultimately keeping every thread in Monarchs intimate. Monarchs identity is ultimately that of family, and Celeste collaborates with musicians in both Birmingham and Austin to find creative catalysts, such as artist Van Hollingsworth, and develop her craft organically.

Meet Surfer Blood: they call West Palm Beach home and, while still in their early 20s, have penned an album worth of catchy, summery indie songs that even the most hook-laden power pop band would rightfully be jealous of.
Comprised of members JP (dubbed The Mastermind by the rest of the band), TJ, Thomas Brian and Marcos, Surfer Blood met one fateful night at an after party for Miamis Ultra Festival, though they didnt attend the festival itself (We do not like the DnB, they proclaim). After discussing music, what else, for the remainder of the night, JP and TJ decided to recruit the three other guys to perfect a couple of songs they had been working on for some time, and thus, the band was formed.

LAs Warpaint weaves majestic guitars, hypnotic vocals, and driving post-punk rhythms into gorgeous, sprawling songs that skirt the line between the soundscapes of psychedelia/shoegaze, the haunting intimacy of folk, and rocks primal heaviness. At the core of the band are Emily Kokal, Theresa Wayman and Jenny Lee Lindberg.
