Aerodrone is a lean, mean-playing electro pop-rock machine who has danced and rocked its way into basements and bedrooms around the nation through the help of Web 2.0 and phrases like “Hold Me Like A Microphone.” Originally from Oregon before moving to Los Angeles, the group has released the Sceneboy EP to rapid fan response across the world, seen on one YouTube video too many. After numerous gigs around the US and various run-ins with MTVU, Myspace Records, and Warner Music Group as well as awesome fans that work at Dairy Queen, the band has set out to mix new songs with help from producer Mark Needham of The Killers, Inner Party System, Fleetwood Mac fame. A growing number of rap artists are leaving the bad boy hip hop lifestyle for a more spiritual one.

The Canadian Dawah Association says that an increasing number of rappers this year have embraced Islam or acknowledged they had in the past.

Amir Junaid Muhadith, better known by his stage name, Loon, talks to Al Jazeera’s Sami Zeidan about his spiritual journey.

Amir Junaid Muhadith (born Chauncey Lamont Hawkins, June 20, 1975) better known by his stage name Loon, formerly an African-American rapper who was part of P. Diddy’s Bad Boy Records. Amir (Loon) accepted Islam in Dec. 2008 whilst on tour in Dubai, UAE. His inspiring story of rising up from the ghettos of Harlem, NY to street-hustling and later making it in to the rap game and eventually realising the truth of Islam and becoming Muslim, is quite a story. Amir never attained true personal fulfilment despite enjoying the pinnacle of material life (wealth, success and fame), no matter how hard he strove, he couldnt attain that inner peace that can only be realised by submitting to ones Lord, living for the hereafter and not the present life, the complete contentment of believing in, worshipping and supplicating to the Lord of the worlds, practising the beautiful religion of Islam.

Merely three years after writing her first song, Celeste Griffin founded Monarchs in both Birmingham, Alabama and Austin, Texas, catching the attention of the Music Capital of the World by independently releasing two EPs and playing regular gigs at Emos, Cactus Cafe, and Mohawk.

Celeste has developed the music emergent in her and cultivated her own unique brand of intimate songwriting. Her rugged, feminine lyrics combined with her smoky vocals make for dreamy yet anthemic music.

Monarchs EPs, The Oak EP and Those Words, Those Frames, are the sonic equivalent of a summer evening on a back porch. Griffin takes these moments wherever she goes, ultimately keeping every thread in Monarchs intimate. Monarchs identity is ultimately that of family, and Celeste collaborates with musicians in both Birmingham and Austin to find creative catalysts, such as artist Van Hollingsworth, and develop her craft organically.
