Why do music artists today wear flashy outfits?

I always see like music artists Lady Gaga or Katy Perry wear out of this world clothes like watermelon dresses and rhinstone dresses. I just wondering who inspired todays music artists to wear glitzy, sequened, rhinstone, flashy outfits? Whos was the first artist to start this fad?

Maybe its what the other guy said but really I think its just because they are famous and they can. And they know what they wear will set a trend and people will start dressing in that style so bands and musicians just kinda do it for that reason and because they like to stand out from the other people. Especially the younger bands.

    It’s glam pop.

They want to be inspirational, like Punk the era of garbage bag dresses and torn leather jackets with syringes. It’s just another trend setting style, and its fashion so they want to be different not the typical pop/ slut look.

Flashy clothes by artists go back to the the 1920’s
I think most of the trashy clothes start with Madonna
