@Rocky1990 the diameter really only matters for what fits your mouth. The length of the didj is what give it it’s tone. Longer = lower, while shorter = higher.

@OneSkiWonder diameter doesn’t really matter for me since I’m going to put a beesmax mouthpiece on it anyway. I just want it to be really deep and for that I want to have large diameter bamboo pipes. For some reason bamboo seems more Bass-ey than other wooden didges. Wonder why.

@ewrgth wtf. of course there are “full blood” aboriginals in australia left. I am from australia, and i can assure you there are. Personally i am not aboriginal but a lot of their culture and way of life is being destroyed by the western way of life, which me off, but i can’t do anything about it. The didgeridoo is used to tell a story, i don’t know what this one means though…it could just be a demonstration of some different animal sounds…….

As far as the bamboo thing goes, bamboo is flexible and thus resonates easily. This causes the bass tones of the didj to “ring.” PVC has the same effect. It gives a boomy sound and tends to drown out the higher pitched detail that creates the unique texture of the didj sound. Authentic didjes are eucalyptus, which is an /extremely/ dense wood (heavy!), and thus has a very detailed, sharp, or articulated sound.

All the variables interact. The tune of the didj is determined by the ratio of diameter to length. A larger diameter requires a longer length for the same tone. Also, internal diameter will effect things like backpressure, which will affect how easy or difficult it is to play.
