1. Go to Pandora.com. Type in your bands and it builds a playlist based on what you put in, and then plays it!
And then if you like it, you can go to your friendly local music shop and buy it, or download the songs from any reputable source online. You’d be surprised at the availability of underground bands.
2. Here are just a few suggestions based on what I think the bands you listed are like: The Killers, Wilco, The Secret Machines, The Thrills, The Sea and Cake, Hayden, Franz Ferdinand, The Decemberists. These are more mainstream than others I have.
