im into ida maria, bat for lashes, joanna newsum, florence and the machine, regina spektor, cold war kids, port o’brien ,babyshambles, nouvelle vague, the astroid galaxy tour so anything similar to them please ![]()
I think you’d like Lonely Drifter Karen. Their 2009 album got the best review I’ve ever seen of any album, from the Sunday Times (London). And it’s that good, the best of the year imho. A distant second would be Jesca Hoop’s Kismet.
Others I can recommend include Emily Haines & Soft Skeleton, Miss Li, Amiina, Kokusyoku Sumire, Szalóki Ági, Coeur de Pirate, Maria Bethania, The Ditty Bops, Lenka, Katy vs. Evil, Architecture in Helsinki, Lio, Alice in Videoland, Koop, Bitter:sweet, Maria Mena, Valerie Gore, Nu Skiffle Brigade, Lucy Schwartz, Madeleine Bloom, Zazie, Honey is Cool, Anya Marina, The Ideal Husband, Polly Scattergood, Thao Nguyen, Peggy Sue & The Pirates, Zee Avi, Inara George (Merrick, The Bird and the Bee, The Living Sisters), Double THumb, Cyrille Aimée, Gabriela Kulka, and my new favorite, Little Buddha. Also Amy Lavere is great if you like a little country twang. If you haven’t heard Pizzicato Five, I strongly recommend them. They’re an old band from the 1990s, with a sound similar to Nouvelle Vague. The lead singer just teamed up with Brazilian singer Fernanda Takai to form the new group Maki Takai. There are some cute videos of them singing and dancing on YouTube (e.g., see links), although the audio quality is low.
